The Songs of Summer #14: Let’s Go Surfin’ by The Drums

drums-summertimeA simple, catchy melody. Simple lyrics. No deep meaning here. That’s what summer songs are all about, Charlie Brown.

The Drums are an indie pop band from Brooklyn, New York. Their sound is reminiscent of the new wave and indie bands of the 1980s, which is never a bad thing. This song is from their 2009 EP ‘Summertime!‘ which I highly recommend if you like this sort of ridiculously catchy, new-wavish indie pop. The entire EP is perfect for summertime listening. All of their albums are worth a listen, in my opinion. They’re still recording and touring; their latest album, Encyclopedia, was released in 2014. Nothin’ but the good stuff here, folks. Let’s go surfin!

“Wake up, it’s a beautiful morning
Honey, while the stars are still shining
Wake up, would you like to go with me
Honey, take a run down to the beach

Oh momma, I wanna go surfin’
Oh momma, I don’t care about nothing…

Down down baby down by the rollercoaster
Sweet sweet baby I’ll never let you go
Down down baby down by the rollercoaster
Sweet sweet baby I’ll never let you go…”
