The Friday Song: ‘Yama Yama’ by Yamasuki
I almost forgot! I almost forgot to post the Friday Song. It’s been a hectic day; I took a long (very long) lunch break and snuck off to catch Star Wars The Force Awakens. Suffice it to say it was time very well spent. It’s good. It’s really good. I hope you get a chance to see it before the spoilers catch up with you; they are out there. It’s best seen without knowing anymore than you know right now.
Anyway…It is Friday. And Fridays need a song. This is today’s. ‘Yama Yama‘ by Yamasuki. I first heard this album earlier this year, but was surprised when I heard this track pop up on my favorite TV show of the fall season, Fargo.
Yamasuki sounds Japanese. I think the singers sing a lot of their lyrics in Japanese. But they were, in fact, a couple French fellas who put together an album, ‘Le Monde Fabuleux Des Yamasuki‘ in 1971. These guys, Daniel Vangarde and Jean Kluger, released this album of what the reissue describes as “fuzzed-out-educational-multi-cultural psych-rock-opera…. proto-psychedelic hip-hop with overweight drum beats and basslines.” And it’s awesome.
So check out Star Wars. And check out Fargo (the movie and both seasons of the tv show. And then check out ‘Yama Yama.’ Have a great weekend!
