Oh my Lord these friggin’ roads…… As if to add insult to injury after what has been a historically dreadful winter here in Michigan, the ice and snow has melted away from our roads to reveal a natural disaster on a scale we haven’t seen around here since, well, ever. I’m talking about the potholes.
Gripe, Gripe, Gripe. Bitch, Bitch, Bitch. Complain, Complain, Complain. I’ve come to the conclusion that this is what we’ve become: A nation of whiners. If you spend any amount of time online like I do, you’ve no doubt noticed that Facebook postings and article comment sections and forums everywhere have devolved into a cesspool of negativity and nitpicking complaints. Anything and everything, it doesn’t matter. There’s going to be a line of people waiting to bitch about it. And I’ve just about had enough of it. It’s time to fight back: Ignoring these whiny fools is no longer enough. They need to be called out for what they are: a waste of our precious time and mental energy.
I write the following at the significant risk of coming off sounding like a grouchy old man who does nothing but complain about how things were better in the “good old days.” Don’t feel bad if that’s what you take away from it, because it’s a fairly accurate description. At 44, I feel fairly comfortable stepping into the role of curmudgeon. I see things I don’t like, I’m apt to complain about them; making it to mid-life earns me that right.
I hate to say it (no I don’t) but I’m rapidly losing what little faith in humanity I had left. This country of ours, I’m afraid, has exactly the government it deserves. Our ‘leaders’ in Washington can’t get their sh*t together to save their lives, or worse yet think that shutting things down is the way to get things done, and the government is closed for two weeks. Real peoples’ lives are impacted negatively, but screw us, a new law has been passed that a very few in congress don’t care for so they throw a hissy fit and shut down the government. That’s not the way a democracy works, but this country hasn’t been a functioning government for a very long time.
